Protect Your Hair from Summer Damage

I recently did a class at the Brian Charles Salon in Austin, Texas. The Colorists told me about a few environmental hair elements that Texans deal with:

  1. They live on limestone, which makes the water hard, with a lot of minerals. This builds up on hair over time.
  2. Also, they are in the sun year round, and that pays a toll on the hair.
  3. They spend a lot of time at the pool, which leaves chlorine and buildup on the hair.

A couple of quick tips for you sunshine/hard water/chlorine lovers trying to keep your hair moisturized and shiny:

  • A filter on your shower head helps to minimize hard water absorption. Bed Bath and Beyond sells a great one.
  • At least once a week, visit your Hairdresser for a deep cleansing shampoo to remove buildup on hair. Follow with a deep moisturizing masque or reconstructor treatment for your hair.
  • Also, sleep on a silk or satin pillow case to keep your hair shaft smooth. Silk/satin cases helps minimize moisture absorption.
  • Braid your hair at night to protect the outer layer of your hair (plus, you’ll have great beach waves from the braid the next day)!

Enjoy the sun… but protect your hair and that gorgeous color!
