About Olaplex

One topic that is coming up in my color classes, whether it's Color Fundamentals or Balayage, is "Do you use Olaplex"?

Olaplex

Olaplex is a new product that you put in your lightener or color. It's designed to maintain and raise the quality and integrity of the hair while achieving the client's desired results.

It's meant for hair that really isn't "doable", but Olaplex allows it to be achieved.

As an experienced colorist, my first instinct is to remember - always do hair analysis and elasticity checks. The hair strand can only handle much highlighting, damage, change.... coloring back... before all goes awry!

You should always be realistic with the expectations of your client and their hair. I have yet to meet a client that is excited about fried, dry, brittle hair or short hair when it is not planned for.

I have had many clients say, "Oh, it's ok if it gets weak and dry we can just cut it".

The client is never ok when it comes to that ...... No matter how much I describe and explain in the consultation it's still shock when the hair is pushed too far and needs to come off.
