Transitioning Your Client's Haircolor for Fall

Every year I notice that summer has a way of making my clients hair way lighter and warmer than any other season. It's done so gradually that my clients don't always notice how far away from their natural or desired look they have gotten! I always have a plan for my clients for fall, that allows us to transition smoothly into fall/winter with their haircolor, style and overall trend!

I first educate my client of what tones are on trend for Fall. A few of my favorite resources are the September issue of Vogue and pulling a few different styles from my Pinterest board. This allows me to have a visual discussion with my client.

Then, I take my clients on a gentle journey of adding dimension for the highlights to bounce off of thru fall.

I typically will go one of two options:

OPTION #1 - Take 1" or 2" deep sections in a horseshoe pattern on the head starting in the nape (mid-ear to mid ear). Lay Suran down and begin to paint in-depth roots to mid-lengths. I use Suran so I have a visual for how much depth I am bringing in and where.

Then I move up the head using her haircut layers as a guide, and do another 1" deep section from temple to temple on the parietal ridge and paint in the depth.

I also have the option of doing some highlights along with the dimensions.

OPTION #2 - Taking the all over look deeper and richer.
I do an all-over color starting at the roots with grey coverage formula (if needed). If it's not, I like to add a bit more depth at root - about a 1/2 to 1 level deeper for the first 2" out of the scalp, and then I apply a richer warm formula on mid lengths and ends.

If my client was a pale beachy blonde, I typically will shoot for a level 7 root with a soft level 9 with subtle golden tones mid lengths an ends.

If my client is a warm golden blonde to start I will shoot for a 5-6 level at the root and apply a medium strawberry and or golden blonde on the mid length & ends.
